The Perko 9621DP is a single battery disconnect switch that cuts the battery off from the boat's electrical system, and it can also act as an emergency main disconnect. It is rated 140 amps continuous, 200 amps for 5 minutes and 250 amps for a 30 second start, and it is ignition protected. The body is red polycarbonate polymer with nickel plated terminals. Panel mounting needs a 2-1/8 inch hole and cup mounting a 3 inch hole.

Our take

The 250 amp, 30 second start rating sits above the 140 amp continuous figure, so the switch is rated to pass the brief surge of an engine start as well as the steady load. Ignition protection is listed too.

From our buying guide

Perko says its selector switches can be switched between 1, ALL and 2 with the engine running, and that they let you put batteries in parallel for emergency starting. Battle Born advises against that connection with its LiFePO4 batteries.

Check before you buy:

  • Its continuous and 5-minute ratings suit your system. Perko rates its medium-duty 8501 at 250 A continuous.
  • It has an alternator field disconnect if you need one. Perko says its AFD models protect non-unitized alternators if the switch is turned OFF with the engine running.
  • If it's going in a gasoline engine space, the maker lists it as ignition protected.
