Specifications

Continuous rating
315 A

The Perko 8512DP is a compact battery selector switch with a key lock, made for 6 to 50 volt marine electrical systems. It is rated for 315 amps continuous and 450 amps for 5 minutes intermittent. The rotary switch turns through 90° and uses 3/8 inch terminal studs. The body measures 4-3/4 inches in diameter and 1-7/8 inches deep.

Our take

A 315 amp continuous rating with a 450 amp, 5 minute intermittent figure gives you a clear ceiling to size cable and loads against. The 90° rotation is a short throw that is easy to identify, and the key lock lets the switch be locked.

From our buying guide

Perko says its selector switches can be switched between 1, ALL and 2 with the engine running, and that they let you put batteries in parallel for emergency starting. Battle Born advises against that connection with its LiFePO4 batteries.

Check before you buy:

  • Its continuous and 5-minute ratings suit your system. Perko rates its medium-duty 8501 at 250 A continuous.
  • It has an alternator field disconnect if you need one. Perko says its AFD models protect non-unitized alternators if the switch is turned OFF with the engine running.
  • If it's going in a gasoline engine space, the maker lists it as ignition protected.
