Manuals

The Perko 8511DP is a compact battery selector switch with a rotary action, sold without a key lock. It measures 4-3/4" in diameter and 1-7/8" deep, so it takes little space to mount. It is a medium duty on/off selector for 12, 24 and 32 volt marine electrical systems, and the knob turns through 90° positions that are easy to identify.

Our take

At 4-3/4" across and 1-7/8" deep, this switch keeps its footprint small, and the 90° rotation makes each position easy to identify. It is the version without a key lock.

From our buying guide

Perko says its selector switches can be switched between 1, ALL and 2 with the engine running, and that they let you put batteries in parallel for emergency starting. Battle Born advises against that connection with its LiFePO4 batteries.

Check before you buy:

  • Its continuous and 5-minute ratings suit your system. Perko rates its medium-duty 8501 at 250 A continuous.
  • It has an alternator field disconnect if you need one. Perko says its AFD models protect non-unitized alternators if the switch is turned OFF with the engine running.
  • If it's going in a gasoline engine space, the maker lists it as ignition protected.
