The Perko 1460 Coastal Series is a white all-round light on a 42 inch plug-in pole. The pole is anodized aluminum with a locking collar, topped with a clear fluted lens and black polymer collars. It shows 2 mile visibility, uses a 12 volt, 9 watt bulb that is included, and is meant for power driven vessels under 20 meters. It needs a 2-pin mounting base to plug into.
Our take
The 2 mile visibility and the under 20 meter power vessel rating set the scope of this plug-in all-round light. It also needs a 2-pin mounting base, so that part has to be in place before the pole can be used at all.
From our buying guide
The lights a boat must show depend on its length and how it's being driven. A sailboat under power is a power-driven vessel and shows power-driven lights.
Check before you buy:
- The label gives its visibility in nautical miles, and that range meets the minimum for your boat's length.
- The maker rates it for boats of your length.
- A replacement LED is certified with the fixture it's going into, since the Coast Guard warns that replacement lighting may not meet the rules.
