This Perko fixture is a fold-down navigation light that serves as a masthead light or an all-round light, depending on how it is wired. It is made for windshield mounting, with a horizontal mount where the light folds across the base. It is rated for vessels up to 65 ft (20 m) with 3 nautical mile visibility. The 12 volt bulb is included and a 24 volt version is offered. Plastic adapters handle flat or V-type mounting surfaces, and the angle adjusts.
Our take
A three wire system lets this one fixture serve as a masthead light or an all-round light, and wired correctly the rear light cannot come on alone. That means one fold-down unit does two jobs on a windshield mount rated for vessels up to 65 ft.
From our buying guide
The lights a boat must show depend on its length and how it's being driven. A sailboat under power is a power-driven vessel and shows power-driven lights.
Check before you buy:
- The label gives its visibility in nautical miles, and that range meets the minimum for your boat's length.
- The maker rates it for boats of your length.
- A replacement LED is certified with the fixture it's going into, since the Coast Guard warns that replacement lighting may not meet the rules.
