The Onyx A/M-24 Deluxe is an adult inflatable life jacket that inflates on immersion or when the wearer pulls the handle. Back-up oral inflation is built in, and it can be converted from auto/manual to manual only. It gives at least 22.5 lb of buoyancy when inflated. Padded air mesh lines the lower panels, back and straps, and there are utility pockets plus a fleece lined sunglass pocket. The maker states it is for people 16 and older and over 80 lb, and it carries Type V approval with Type III performance.
Our take
The 22.5 lb minimum buoyancy is the figure once inflated, so the flotation arrives only after the automatic, handle or oral inflation does its job. The maker advises against it for people who cannot swim well and sets a 16 year, 80 lb floor.
