The Nikon 7x50 Oceanpro is a black binocular with a 50 mm objective and a central focus knob. It is nitrogen filled and O-ring sealed, so it is waterproof and fogproof, and rubber armor gives it a durable exterior. Eye relief is 22.7 mm, and multiple layers of anti-reflective compounds are used for brightness and resolution. The binocular weighs 38 oz.
Our take
Nitrogen filling and O-ring sealing are what make the 7x50 Oceanpro waterproof and fogproof, a sound basis for wet weather. The 22.7 mm of eye relief and a smooth central focus knob keep it easy to use, though at 38 oz it is a weighty pair to hold up.
From our buying guide
Steiner calls 7x the marine standard. Higher magnification narrows the field of view and makes the image more sensitive to hand shake.
Check before you buy:
- The water rating comes with its depth and time, since ratings vary widely between makers.
- The maker says what floats, the body or only a strap, since some make no flotation claim at all.
- A stabilised pair has a water rating you're happy with, since not every one carries a waterproof rating.
