This is the Mustang Survival MV1254 T1 Industrial Mesh Vest in orange, size Large/XL. It is a USCG Type III flotation vest with mesh shoulders, large front pockets with Velcro closure, and SOLAS reflective tape on the front and back. The Large/XL fits a chest of 42 to 50 inches (107 to 127 cm) and wearers of 90 lb or over. Side adjustments give the vest dual sizing.
Our take
The mesh shoulders are there for mobility and comfort, which matters when you are moving around a deck, and 32 square inches of SOLAS reflective tape front and back makes the wearer easier to spot. The 90 lb minimum wearer weight rules out small children.
From our buying guide
US rules count Coast Guard-approved jackets. One approved only to European or ISO standards doesn't meet the US carriage rules, however good it is.
Check before you buy:
- The approval number is on the label, and the jacket fits you as that label marks.
- You're getting the US version, since some jackets are sold in two.
- If it's Level 50, it only counts toward what you must carry when it's worn.
