The MIT 70 is an automatic inflatable life jacket from Mustang Survival in Admiral Gray, with a Harmonized Level 70 approval and 15.7 lb of buoyancy. It has a 420D nylon face fabric and weighs 1.23 lbs. A Halkey Roberts inflator fires on water immersion, and a manual handle lets the wearer inflate it at any time. It is marked as USCG approved.
Our take
The 15.7 lb bladder can fill two ways: the Halkey Roberts inflator fires on immersion, or you pull the manual handle. At 1.23 lbs the MIT 70 is a light jacket to wear, and it carries a USCG approved mark.
From our buying guide
US rules count Coast Guard-approved jackets. One approved only to European or ISO standards doesn't meet the US carriage rules, however good it is.
Check before you buy:
- The approval number is on the label, and the jacket fits you as that label marks.
- You're getting the US version, since some jackets are sold in two.
- If it's Level 50, it only counts toward what you must carry when it's worn.
