The MIT 100 is a red convertible inflatable life jacket from Mustang Survival, approved as Type V with Type III performance and giving 28 lb of buoyancy. It is made of 500D Cordura nylon and weighs 1.45 lbs. Swapping the included inflator caps changes it between automatic and manual only inflation, and a zippered hip pocket carries the spare cap. It is meant to turn most wearers face up and has a D-ring for an engine cut-off switch.
Our take
Swappable inflator caps let the MIT 100 run automatic or manual only, with the spare cap kept in a zippered hip pocket. It gives 28 lb of buoyancy, is meant to turn most wearers face up, and has a D-ring for an engine cut-off switch.
From our buying guide
US rules count Coast Guard-approved jackets. One approved only to European or ISO standards doesn't meet the US carriage rules, however good it is.
Check before you buy:
- The approval number is on the label, and the jacket fits you as that label marks.
- You're getting the US version, since some jackets are sold in two.
- If it's Level 50, it only counts toward what you must carry when it's worn.
