The Elite 190 is an automatic inflatable life jacket from Mustang Survival, approved by the USCG as a Type II. It gives 190N (42 lb) of buoyancy and uses the Hammar MA1 automatic inflator. It carries bladder lobes to help hold the wearer upright, baffles near the chin to push waves away from the face, and a built-in pillow for head support. There is an engine kill switch loop and room to stow an AIS or PLB. Leg straps, a sprayhood and a light can be added as options.
Our take
The Hammar MA1 inflator is rated maintenance free for 5 years and is designed to resist accidental inflation, so the jacket asks little upkeep between checks. Leg straps, sprayhood and light are optional extras you add yourself.
