The Elite 120 is an inflatable life jacket from Mustang Survival in red, with 120N (28 lb) of buoyancy. It is listed as USCG approved. Its ADAPT design uses bladder lobes to help hold the wearer upright, plus baffles near the chin that turn waves away from the face. The Hammar MA1 inflator needs no maintenance for 5 years and resists accidental inflation. There is a mesh back and an engine kill switch loop.
Our take
Five years without maintenance on the Hammar MA1 inflator cuts upkeep, and the chin baffles are there to turn incoming waves away from the face. With 120N (28 lb) of buoyancy and a kill switch loop, it is built around the person at the helm.
From our buying guide
US rules count Coast Guard-approved jackets. One approved only to European or ISO standards doesn't meet the US carriage rules, however good it is.
Check before you buy:
- The approval number is on the label, and the jacket fits you as that label marks.
- You're getting the US version, since some jackets are sold in two.
- If it's Level 50, it only counts toward what you must carry when it's worn.
