A four-pocket flotation vest from Mustang Survival in orange, size XXL. It carries a U.S.C.G. Type III approval and is not inflatable. It fits chests from 48 to 52 inches (122 to 132 cm). Four front pockets close with Velcro and hold tools. Two D-rings take lanyard attachments, and SOLAS reflective tape on the shoulders adds visibility. The maker lists a wearer weight of 90 lb or over.
Our take
Four Velcro-closed front pockets and two D-rings set this vest up for carrying tools and attaching a lanyard, and the SOLAS reflective tape on the shoulders helps others spot the wearer in dark or stormy conditions.
From our buying guide
US rules count Coast Guard-approved jackets. One approved only to European or ISO standards doesn't meet the US carriage rules, however good it is.
Check before you buy:
- The approval number is on the label, and the jacket fits you as that label marks.
- You're getting the US version, since some jackets are sold in two.
- If it's Level 50, it only counts toward what you must carry when it's worn.
