The Mustang Survival 4-ONE is a life jacket that holds USCG Type I along with USCG SOLAS, Transport Canada SOLAS and Marine Equipment Directive SOLAS approvals in one compact design. This one is the child size, for wearers of 33 to 95 lb. It has SOLAS grade reflective tape, an accessory tab with a SOLAS approved whistle, a buoyant buddy line and a lifting loop. There is an attachment point for a personal light, but the light itself is not included.
Our take
The 4-ONE's draw is carrying USCG Type I, USCG SOLAS, MED SOLAS and TC SOLAS approvals on a single jacket, in a size that covers 33 to 95 lb wearers. The buoyant buddy line and lifting loop add handles for recovery.
From our buying guide
US rules count Coast Guard-approved jackets. One approved only to European or ISO standards doesn't meet the US carriage rules, however good it is.
Check before you buy:
- The approval number is on the label, and the jacket fits you as that label marks.
- You're getting the US version, since some jackets are sold in two.
- If it's Level 50, it only counts toward what you must carry when it's worn.
