Our take

At 118 dB(A) at one meter with a fundamental near 390 cycles per second, this is a loud horn. It draws up to 5 amps on 12V, and at 16-1/2 inches long it needs room, so allow for that length where it mounts.

From our buying guide

A boat of 12 m or more must have a whistle, and one of 20 m or more a bell as well. Under 12 m it need not carry them, but must have some other means of making an efficient sound signal.

Check before you buy:

  • You aren't comparing loudness across makers, since they measure it at different distances, or give no distance at all.
  • You can mount a fixed horn facing forward and as high as possible, as Kahlenberg says to.
  • You have any parts the maker leaves to you, such as a horn button and fuse.
