Specifications

- 107 dB at 1 m
The Marinco 10079 is a drop-in hidden horn rated at 107 dB. The sound unit is enclosed, and it comes with both black and white ASA snap-in grills. The horn mounts from the outside and the chosen grill snaps on, which the maker calls an easy retrofit. Having two grill colours means you can match the finish of the surrounding panel.
Our take
Rated at 107 dB with an enclosed sound unit, this hidden horn is fitted from the outside of the mounting surface and the grill then snaps on. The black and white grills in the box let you pick the finish that sits better on your panel.
From our buying guide
A boat of 12 m or more must have a whistle, and one of 20 m or more a bell as well. Under 12 m it need not carry them, but must have some other means of making an efficient sound signal.
Check before you buy:
- You aren't comparing loudness across makers, since they measure it at different distances, or give no distance at all.
- You can mount a fixed horn facing forward and as high as possible, as Kahlenberg says to.
- You have any parts the maker leaves to you, such as a horn button and fuse.
