- Current draw
- 3 A
The Marinco 10031 is a 12 volt electric horn in a compact body, 3.25 inches wide, 1.75 inches high and 3 inches long. It puts out 105 dB(A) at one meter at a fundamental frequency of 430 Hz, give or take 20. The diaphragm is type 304 stainless steel, and current draw tops out at 3 amps. It is not designed for exposed areas, so it needs a mounting spot under cover.
Our take
The 10031 draws at most 3 amps and measures only 3 inches long, so it is easy to place and gentle on the wiring. The catch is that it is not designed for exposed areas, so mount it somewhere dry and covered, not out on the open deck.
From our buying guide
A boat of 12 m or more must have a whistle, and one of 20 m or more a bell as well. Under 12 m it need not carry them, but must have some other means of making an efficient sound signal.
Check before you buy:
- You aren't comparing loudness across makers, since they measure it at different distances, or give no distance at all.
- You can mount a fixed horn facing forward and as high as possible, as Kahlenberg says to.
- You have any parts the maker leaves to you, such as a horn button and fuse.
