This is a 12-volt electronic horn from Marinco with a white grill and a piezo sound. The housing is a single water resistant piece with the grill molded onto the horn. It is rated at 107 dB(A) at one meter, with a fundamental frequency of 550 Hz, plus or minus 100. Current draw is under one amp, with a maximum of 0.8 amp. It fits a standard 2.25 inch opening.
Our take
The 0.8 amp maximum draw is the number to note: a piezo horn this light on current puts little load on the circuit. It is rated 107 dB(A) at one meter, and with the grill molded into a one piece water resistant housing, the grill is part of the case.
From our buying guide
A boat of 12 m or more must have a whistle, and one of 20 m or more a bell as well. Under 12 m it need not carry them, but must have some other means of making an efficient sound signal.
Check before you buy:
- You aren't comparing loudness across makers, since they measure it at different distances, or give no distance at all.
- You can mount a fixed horn facing forward and as high as possible, as Kahlenberg says to.
- You have any parts the maker leaves to you, such as a horn button and fuse.
