The Lewmar Synchro Block is a 72 mm swivel block with a plain bearing, made for speed and efficiency. It takes line up to 7/16" (11.1mm) and has a sliding swivel locking mechanism on its head. The strap is stainless steel for strength and service life, and the cheeks are stiff glass fibre reinforced to keep lines from wedging. Lewmar says plain bearing blocks typically go on heavy, static loads.

Our take

The plain bearing on this 72 mm Synchro block puts it in the heavy, static load group, going by the maker's own description. Stiff glass fibre cheeks stop line wedging, and the stainless steel strap carries the strength, so the build is aimed at steady, loaded duty.

From our buying guide

Ball-bearing blocks give the lowest friction on lines running under moderate loads. Plain bearings have more friction, but handle very high and static loads.

Check before you buy:

  • A ratchet block is rated for the full sheet load.
  • Any becket's load limit suits the job, since a becket can be rated below the block itself.
  • A soft-attach block will be looked after, since Harken warns soft attachments are prone to wear and recommends them only for regularly maintained race boats.
