The Kidde Pro 340 is a rechargeable fire extinguisher with a UL rating of 3-A:40B-C. It is built for commercial settings and aimed at larger areas as well as fires in solid materials, flammable liquids and electrical equipment. Kidde advertises three times the firefighting power of a 1-A:10-B:C unit. A QR code on the body simplifies servicing, and a location sign and inspection tag support NFPA 10 service records.
Our take
The 3-A:40B-C rating is the number to read: Kidde puts the Class A capability at three times that of a 1-A:10-B:C unit and pitches it for larger areas. It is rechargeable, with a QR code on the body to simplify servicing.
From our buying guide
Powered boats with permanently installed fuel tanks, or spaces where fuel vapors can be trapped, must carry them in a number set by length. The Coast Guard's FAQ says a 10-B counts only as one 5-B, even though it contains more agent.
Check before you buy:
- The label on the bottle states 'Marine Type USCG Approved'.
- The date on a disposable leaves it plenty of life, since the Coast Guard's FAQ says it is expired once it is more than 12 years old.
- It comes with its bracket, since makers tie the approval to it.
