The Mariner 210 is a Kidde fire extinguisher built for boats and rated UL 2-A:10-B:C. It is made of aluminum and stainless steel, which the maker says is meant to cope with long exposure to salt and water. It is described as handling marine fires, including those involving electrical equipment, and as a higher capacity unit for larger fires. A strap bracket is included, and the Coast Guard approval is given together with that bracket. A QR code leads to registration and warranty.

Our take

The UL 2-A:10-B:C rating with a strap bracket supplied tells you this extinguisher is meant to be mounted in place aboard, with Coast Guard approval given for that bracket. The aluminum and stainless construction is aimed at salt and water exposure.

From our buying guide

Powered boats with permanently installed fuel tanks, or spaces where fuel vapors can be trapped, must carry them in a number set by length. The Coast Guard's FAQ says a 10-B counts only as one 5-B, even though it contains more agent.

Check before you buy:

  • The label on the bottle states 'Marine Type USCG Approved'.
  • The date on a disposable leaves it plenty of life, since the Coast Guard's FAQ says it is expired once it is more than 12 years old.
  • It comes with its bracket, since makers tie the approval to it.
