This is a 12 volt bilge pump from Johnson Pump rated at 600 GPH, with a 3/4 inch discharge hose connection. The Ultima field effect sensing is built into the pump body, so no separate pump switch is required. It can also be run by hand through a bilge pump control switch or panel. The Dura-Port discharge is crack resistant and comes with both a straight and a 90 degree elbow, and the check valve, clip-on basket and impeller cover are all removable.
Our take
The field effect sensing built into the pump body means the 600 GPH Ultima needs no external switch, one less item to mount in the bilge. It still runs by hand from a switch or panel, and the impeller cover comes off for cleaning.
From our buying guide
Rule and Johnson both say their bilge pumps are not intended for damage control. Flow falls as the discharge head rises, and the length of the hose, its bends and any check valve reduce it further.
Check before you buy:
- The maker's own table shows the flow at head, since how much a pump loses depends on the model.
- An automatic pump also has a manual switch, which ABYC's voluntary 2005 standard calls for.
- You'll fuse it to the maker's figure.
