This is the 800 GPH UltimaBilge pump from Johnson Pump, a 12V unit with a 3/4 in discharge hose. Sensing is built into the pump body using a patented field effect system, so it needs no external float or pump switch. The discharge port is crack resistant and the pump comes with both a straight and a 90 degree elbow fitting. The check valve and the impeller cover both come off for service, and a clip-on basket is removable.
Our take
Field effect sensing built into the pump body is what defines this 800 GPH pump: there is no separate float switch to mount. It can still be run by hand from a bilge pump switch or panel.
From our buying guide
Rule and Johnson both say their bilge pumps are not intended for damage control. Flow falls as the discharge head rises, and the length of the hose, its bends and any check valve reduce it further.
Check before you buy:
- The maker's own table shows the flow at head, since how much a pump loses depends on the model.
- An automatic pump also has a manual switch, which ABYC's voluntary 2005 standard calls for.
- You'll fuse it to the maker's figure.
