The Johnson Pump UltimaBilge is a 1000 GPH, 12V bilge pump with a 3/4" discharge hose. Patented field effect sensing is built into the pump body, so it needs no external switch. The Dura-Port discharge port is crack-resistant and withstands hose clamp tightening, and a straight and a 90° elbow port come with the pump. It has a removable check valve and an impeller cover that comes off for cleaning, and it can also be run manually from a bilge pump control switch or panel.
Our take
The field effect sensing is in the pump body, so there is no external switch to mount or wire. You can still run it by hand from a bilge pump control switch or panel. It is rated 1000 GPH on 12V as one compact unit.
From our buying guide
Rule and Johnson both say their bilge pumps are not intended for damage control. Flow falls as the discharge head rises, and the length of the hose, its bends and any check valve reduce it further.
Check before you buy:
- The maker's own table shows the flow at head, since how much a pump loses depends on the model.
- An automatic pump also has a manual switch, which ABYC's voluntary 2005 standard calls for.
- You'll fuse it to the maker's figure.
