A compact cartridge bilge pump from Johnson Pump, rated at 1250 GPH on 12V. The motor and impeller are one unit, and the motor can be pulled out for cleaning or replacement without replacing the whole pump. The motor is water-cooled, and the pump includes straight and 90 degree discharge ports you can swap. For automatic operation, it takes a float or Ultima switch.
Our take
The motor comes out of the cartridge on its own, so a tired motor means swapping the motor and not the whole pump. At 1250 GPH on 12V it is a basic pump that needs a float or Ultima switch added for automatic operation.
From our buying guide
Rule and Johnson both say their bilge pumps are not intended for damage control. Flow falls as the discharge head rises, and the length of the hose, its bends and any check valve reduce it further.
Check before you buy:
- The maker's own table shows the flow at head, since how much a pump loses depends on the model.
- An automatic pump also has a manual switch, which ABYC's voluntary 2005 standard calls for.
- You'll fuse it to the maker's figure.
