The Aqua Void is a cartridge style bilge pump from Johnson Pump Marine, here in the 800 GPH size for 12 V systems. It has a compact motor and impeller unit with a 316 stainless steel shaft and meets ISO 8849. It draws 3.7 A with a 5 A fuse and is listed at 795 GPH. A straight and a 90 degree discharge port come with it, along with a removable check valve. It can be paired with an automatic switch for hands-off operation.

Our take

The water-cooled motor is the feature to weigh on the Aqua Void, as it is meant to give long service intervals. Since maintenance needs no tools and the casing can stay connected to the hoses, a cartridge swap in a tight bilge is less of a chore.

From our buying guide

Rule and Johnson both say their bilge pumps are not intended for damage control. Flow falls as the discharge head rises, and the length of the hose, its bends and any check valve reduce it further.

Check before you buy:

  • The maker's own table shows the flow at head, since how much a pump loses depends on the model.
  • An automatic pump also has a manual switch, which ABYC's voluntary 2005 standard calls for.
  • You'll fuse it to the maker's figure.
