The Aqua Void is a 12V cartridge bilge pump from Johnson Pump, in the 500 GPH size. The motor and impeller come as one compact unit with a stainless steel (316) shaft, and the motor is water-cooled. You can service it with the pump casing still fixed to the boat and hoses. It includes a straight and a 90° elbow discharge port, and it meets ISO 8849. Automatic operation needs a separate switch, such as the AS888.
Our take
The water-cooled motor is built for long service intervals, and the casing can stay attached to the boat and hoses during maintenance, which keeps bilge work simple. It has no float of its own, so automatic running means adding a switch like the AS888.
From our buying guide
Rule and Johnson both say their bilge pumps are not intended for damage control. Flow falls as the discharge head rises, and the length of the hose, its bends and any check valve reduce it further.
Check before you buy:
- The maker's own table shows the flow at head, since how much a pump loses depends on the model.
- An automatic pump also has a manual switch, which ABYC's voluntary 2005 standard calls for.
- You'll fuse it to the maker's figure.
