The Commercial Duty Water Puppy is a 24V DC bronze-headed, self-priming pump with a larger motor than the other Water Puppies. It moves 8.4 gpm at 10 ft of head and primes dry to 6 ft, or wet to 20 ft. The nitrile impeller is oil resistant, and a removable end cover lets you change it without disconnecting the plumbing. A 3/4 inch female garden hose adapter is included.
Our take
Priming dry to 6 ft and wet to 20 ft means the pump can draw itself up from a bilge that has run low. The flexible impeller passes small debris, though an inlet strainer is still the sensible precaution.
From our buying guide
Rule and Johnson both say their bilge pumps are not intended for damage control. Flow falls as the discharge head rises, and the length of the hose, its bends and any check valve reduce it further.
Check before you buy:
- The maker's own table shows the flow at head, since how much a pump loses depends on the model.
- An automatic pump also has a manual switch, which ABYC's voluntary 2005 standard calls for.
- You'll fuse it to the maker's figure.
