This is Hella's NaviLED PRO port sidelight, with a red lens in a white housing. It is an LED unit with a minimum visible distance of 3 nautical miles, listed for yachts and powerboats. It runs on 9 to 33 V DC and draws less than 3.2 W. The lamp is fully sealed to IP 67 and comes pre-wired with 2.5 m of twin-core marine cable. It is spike and reverse polarity protected, and approvals include USCG and ABYC A-16.
Our take
The 9 to 33 V DC range and draw under 3.2 W mean this port light keeps working when the battery is sagging at anchor, and it adds almost nothing to the load. With no filament to break, vibration is less of a worry offshore.
From our buying guide
The lights a boat must show depend on its length and how it's being driven. A sailboat under power is a power-driven vessel and shows power-driven lights.
Check before you buy:
- The label gives its visibility in nautical miles, and that range meets the minimum for your boat's length.
- The maker rates it for boats of your length.
- A replacement LED is certified with the fixture it's going into, since the Coast Guard warns that replacement lighting may not meet the rules.
