The Hella NaviLED C-5 is a green-lens starboard navigation light in a black housing, with a 2 nm minimum visible distance. It is an LED unit that operates on 9-33V DC and arrives pre-wired with marine cable. A port and starboard pair uses under 2 watts combined, and the lamp is fully sealed to IP67. Listed approvals are IMO Col Reg 72, RINA, USCG, ABYC A-16 and Maritime NZ.
Our take
A port and starboard pair of these draws under 2 watts combined, so the lights are a very light load on the battery. The sealed IP67 body and LED source also mean there is no bulb to replace.
From our buying guide
The lights a boat must show depend on its length and how it's being driven. A sailboat under power is a power-driven vessel and shows power-driven lights.
Check before you buy:
- The label gives its visibility in nautical miles, and that range meets the minimum for your boat's length.
- The maker rates it for boats of your length.
- A replacement LED is certified with the fixture it's going into, since the Coast Guard warns that replacement lighting may not meet the rules.
