The Hella Marine NaviLED is a pair of compact LED port and starboard navigation lamps with coloured lenses in white housings. They are rated for a minimum visible distance of 2 nautical miles on yachts and powerboats. Together the pair draws less than 2W, and the electronics accept 9-33V DC. Each lamp is fully sealed to IP 67 and comes pre-wired with marine cable. Approvals listed are IMO Col Reg 72, RINA, USCG and ABYC A-16.
Our take
A combined draw under 2W means the pair barely registers on the battery during a long night passage. The 9-33V input range also means the lamps should keep working as a battery sags, and the sealed IP 67 construction has no bulb to fail.
From our buying guide
The lights a boat must show depend on its length and how it's being driven. A sailboat under power is a power-driven vessel and shows power-driven lights.
Check before you buy:
- The label gives its visibility in nautical miles, and that range meets the minimum for your boat's length.
- The maker rates it for boats of your length.
- A replacement LED is certified with the fixture it's going into, since the Coast Guard warns that replacement lighting may not meet the rules.
