The Hella Marine NaviLED set is a pair of LED port and starboard navigation lamps with a clear lens and white housing. Each has a minimum visible distance of 2 nautical miles and runs on 9-33V DC, with both lamps together drawing under 2W. The lamps are fully sealed and IP 67 certified, with an acrylic lens and a high-impact shroud. They are protected against spikes up to +500 volts and reverse polarity to -700 volts, and carry IMO, RINA, USCG, ABYC A-16 and Maritime NZ approvals.
Our take
The pair draws less than 2W combined, which is the figure to weigh against a bulb lamp when you are watching the battery at anchor or under way. Being fully sealed to IP 67 also means no bulb to replace and no open seams for water.
From our buying guide
The lights a boat must show depend on its length and how it's being driven. A sailboat under power is a power-driven vessel and shows power-driven lights.
Check before you buy:
- The label gives its visibility in nautical miles, and that range meets the minimum for your boat's length.
- The maker rates it for boats of your length.
- A replacement LED is certified with the fixture it's going into, since the Coast Guard warns that replacement lighting may not meet the rules.
