This is a Harken 40 mm triple ratchet block with a swivel and a cam cleat. Its machined aluminum sheaves have eight facets to grip the line, and a Hardkote anodized finish adds durability. A recessed switch, reachable from either side, handles the ratchet. The block weighs 8.5 oz., has a SWL of 750 lbs. and takes line up to 3/16".
Our take
At 8.5 oz. with a SWL of 750 lbs., this 40 mm triple block gives ratchet assistance on higher loads in a very light package. The 3/16" maximum line size sets the limit on rope choice.
From our buying guide
Ball-bearing blocks give the lowest friction on lines running under moderate loads. Plain bearings have more friction, but handle very high and static loads.
Check before you buy:
- A ratchet block is rated for the full sheet load.
- Any becket's load limit suits the job, since a becket can be rated below the block itself.
- A soft-attach block will be looked after, since Harken warns soft attachments are prone to wear and recommends them only for regularly maintained race boats.
