The Harken 29 mm Thru-Deck Bullet Block is a small block for leading control lines through the deck with little friction. It has stainless steel side plates and ball bearings made of Delrin, and it takes a 3/16 inch shackle pin. Safe working load is 300 lbs. Harken lists it for outhauls, vangs, barberhaulers, cunninghams, travelers, furling line leads and flag halyards.
Our take
The Delrin ball bearings are what let this block lead a control line with little friction, which is the job Harken gives it. A 300 lb safe working load keeps it to light control lines such as outhauls, vangs and cunninghams.
From our buying guide
Ball-bearing blocks give the lowest friction on lines running under moderate loads. Plain bearings have more friction, but handle very high and static loads.
Check before you buy:
- A ratchet block is rated for the full sheet load.
- Any becket's load limit suits the job, since a becket can be rated below the block itself.
- A soft-attach block will be looked after, since Harken warns soft attachments are prone to wear and recommends them only for regularly maintained race boats.
