This is the Harken Carbo AirBlock, part 2660, a swivel block with a 75 mm sheave on ball bearings. It takes line up to 9/16 inch, and the sideplates are long fiber, glass reinforced nylon resin. The maker calls this series 60% stronger and 30% lighter than its classic series. The swivel stops the line twisting, and UV stabilization covers the ball bearings, sheave and sideplates.
Our take
The 75 mm sheave on ball bearings takes line up to 9/16 inch, and the swivel keeps the line from twisting as the lead changes. The maker pitches the series at racers who want strength without the weight of its classic blocks.
From our buying guide
Ball-bearing blocks give the lowest friction on lines running under moderate loads. Plain bearings have more friction, but handle very high and static loads.
Check before you buy:
- A ratchet block is rated for the full sheet load.
- Any becket's load limit suits the job, since a becket can be rated below the block itself.
- A soft-attach block will be looked after, since Harken warns soft attachments are prone to wear and recommends them only for regularly maintained race boats.
