The Harken 2625 is a 57 mm Power3 Ratchamatic block with an eight-sided hardcoat anodized aluminum sheave and a stainless steel ratchet pawl. It senses load and shifts itself between free running and ratchet assist, with no switch to operate. The sheave is 2-1/4 inches across (57 mm) and the block takes line up to 3/8 inch (10 mm). Holding power is 10:1, and the point where the ratchet engages can be adjusted to the crew's strength and sailing style.
Our take
The adjustable ratchet engagement point lets you set how much load it takes before the pawl starts helping, and under light load it releases freely, so there is no switch to remember. The 3/8 inch (10 mm) maximum line size caps what you can reeve through it.
From our buying guide
Ball-bearing blocks give the lowest friction on lines running under moderate loads. Plain bearings have more friction, but handle very high and static loads.
Check before you buy:
- A ratchet block is rated for the full sheet load.
- Any becket's load limit suits the job, since a becket can be rated below the block itself.
- A soft-attach block will be looked after, since Harken warns soft attachments are prone to wear and recommends them only for regularly maintained race boats.
