The Garmin 010-10218-21 is a P19 thru-hull transducer with a plastic housing and an 8-pin connector. The ceramic element is tilted 12 degrees inside the housing to allow for hull deadrise, and the maker lists it for hulls with 8 to 15 degrees of deadrise. It reads depth to 206 m (700 ft) and also reports temperature. Only 5 mm of the housing sits outside the hull, so drag is low. The housing is ABYC H-27 compliant and the unit is listed for boats up to 9 m (30 ft).
Our take
A 12 degree tilted element makes this P19 a match for hulls with 8 to 15 degrees of deadrise, giving a vertical beam without a fairing. Only 5 mm of the housing sticks out, which keeps drag down on a boat up to 9 m (30 ft).
From our buying guide
Raymarine's general guidance is 200 kHz for water under about 60 m (200 ft) and 50 kHz for deep water. In-hull transducers avoid a hole, but lose performance and need a solid fiberglass bottom.
Check before you buy:
- The housing suits your hull. Airmar and Raymarine rule out plastic on a wood hull and bronze on a metal one.
- It connects to your display, since an analog transducer needs an interface.
- A through-hull will be fitted to the maker's guide. Garmin says its own should be installed by a qualified marine installer.
