The Garmin GT15M-IH is an in-hull transducer, part number 010-12402-00, made to be mounted inside a fiberglass hull rather than on the transom. It runs mid-band CHIRP sonar at 85 to 165 kHz with a 600 W power rating. It is an 8-pin transducer that works with hull deadrise angles from 0 to 25 degrees.
Our take
Because the GT15M-IH sits inside a fiberglass hull instead of on the transom, it avoids the cavitation the maker ties to transom mounts. The 0 to 25 degree deadrise range and 600 W rating define which hulls it is meant for.
From our buying guide
Raymarine's general guidance is 200 kHz for water under about 60 m (200 ft) and 50 kHz for deep water. In-hull transducers avoid a hole, but lose performance and need a solid fiberglass bottom.
Check before you buy:
- The housing suits your hull. Airmar and Raymarine rule out plastic on a wood hull and bronze on a metal one.
- It connects to your display, since an analog transducer needs an interface.
- A through-hull will be fitted to the maker's guide. Garmin says its own should be installed by a qualified marine installer.
