The GPSMAP 943xsv is a Garmin chartplotter with a 9 inch display, and this version is the bundle with the radome and mapping. It includes SideVü, ClearVü and Traditional CHIRP sonar, and the X3 series supports 1 kW CHIRP traditional sonar. The radar is the compact 4 kW GMR 18 HD+ dome. The IPS screen has 50% more pixels than earlier 9 inch GPSMAP units, and the plotter connects over NMEA 2000 and NMEA 0183, with OneHelm digital switching for compatible third-party devices and built-in Wi-Fi for a free mobile app.
Our take
The 4 kW GMR 18 HD+ dome radar in this bundle sits alongside built-in ClearVü and SideVü scanning sonar on a 9 inch IPS screen, so one display handles radar, sonar and charts. The 50% pixel gain over earlier 9 inch GPSMAP units gives a sharper image.
From our buying guide
What's in the box depends on the part number: Raymarine sells one screen display only, with charts, with a transducer, or with both. Not every chart card fits every plotter, either.
Check before you buy:
- The part number includes the charts and transducer you expect.
- It reads the charts you want, and you know how long their updates last, since many come with a one-year subscription.
- A touchscreen suits your helm, since Raymarine warns that prolonged rain or water wash can cause false touches.
