The GPSMAP 9224 is a 24 inch Garmin chartplotter with a touchscreen at 3840 x 2160 pixels. It is rated IPX7 and has two SD card slots, four Garmin BLUENET network ports and connections for NMEA 2000 and NMEA 0183. It weighs 20.60 lbs (9.34 kg) and draws a typical 6.5 A at 12 Vdc. Transducers are sold separately.
Our take
A 3840 x 2160 touchscreen and four BLUENET network ports make this as much a network hub as a display. It also weighs 20.60 lbs and draws a typical 6.5 A at 12 Vdc, so the helm needs to be planned around both.
From our buying guide
What's in the box depends on the part number: Raymarine sells one screen display only, with charts, with a transducer, or with both. Not every chart card fits every plotter, either.
Check before you buy:
- The part number includes the charts and transducer you expect.
- It reads the charts you want, and you know how long their updates last, since many come with a one-year subscription.
- A touchscreen suits your helm, since Raymarine warns that prolonged rain or water wash can cause false touches.
