The Garmin GPSMAP 9217XSV is a 17-inch touchscreen chartplotter with sonar. Its sunlight-readable 4K IPS panel runs 3840 x 2160 pixels with a Mini LED local-dimming backlight, and Garmin rates the processing as 7 times faster than the previous generation. A GPS 24xd position receiver and antenna are included, and it ties into compatible gear over NMEA 2000 and NMEA 0183. Transducers are sold separately.
Our take
The 17-inch panel at 3840 x 2160 pixels gives the 9217XSV a lot of screen to lay charts out on at the helm. Sonar is part of the unit, but transducers are sold separately, so a transducer is an added item to buy and install.
From our buying guide
What's in the box depends on the part number: Raymarine sells one screen display only, with charts, with a transducer, or with both. Not every chart card fits every plotter, either.
Check before you buy:
- The part number includes the charts and transducer you expect.
- It reads the charts you want, and you know how long their updates last, since many come with a one-year subscription.
- A touchscreen suits your helm, since Raymarine warns that prolonged rain or water wash can cause false touches.
