The Garmin GPSMAP 9217 is a 17 inch touchscreen chartplotter with a 3840 x 2160 pixel display. This 010-03177-01 version has no sonar, and it includes a GPS 24xd position receiver and antenna. It connects to NMEA 2000 and NMEA 0183 networks for compatible accessories and is IPX7 rated. Garmin says processing is 7 times faster than previous generations. Transducers are sold separately.
Our take
This 010-03177-01 is the 17 inch GPSMAP 9217 without sonar, so a fish finder setup means adding a sonar module and a transducer separately. The 3840 x 2160 pixel screen suits chart work at the helm, and the 7 times faster processing speeds redraws.
From our buying guide
What's in the box depends on the part number: Raymarine sells one screen display only, with charts, with a transducer, or with both. Not every chart card fits every plotter, either.
Check before you buy:
- The part number includes the charts and transducer you expect.
- It reads the charts you want, and you know how long their updates last, since many come with a one-year subscription.
- A touchscreen suits your helm, since Raymarine warns that prolonged rain or water wash can cause false touches.
