The Garmin GPSMAP 9213XSV is a 13 inch touchscreen chartplotter with a 4K IPS display, 3840 x 2160 pixels, and a Mini LED backlight with local dimming. Sonar is included, but transducers are sold separately. Garmin quotes processing 7 times faster than earlier generations. It includes a GPS 24xd position receiver and antenna, and connects to NMEA 2000 and NMEA 0183 networks. It weighs 9.1 lb.
Our take
Built-in sonar on the 9213XSV still needs a transducer, which is sold separately, so one has to be added before the sonar can show anything. Garmin shows sonar targets on the 4K, 3840 x 2160 display, so the readout has plenty of resolution.
From our buying guide
What's in the box depends on the part number: Raymarine sells one screen display only, with charts, with a transducer, or with both. Not every chart card fits every plotter, either.
Check before you buy:
- The part number includes the charts and transducer you expect.
- It reads the charts you want, and you know how long their updates last, since many come with a one-year subscription.
- A touchscreen suits your helm, since Raymarine warns that prolonged rain or water wash can cause false touches.
