The Garmin GPSMAP 9210XSV is a 10-inch touchscreen chartplotter with sonar. Its WUXGA IPS display runs 1920 x 1200 pixels, and Garmin rates the processing as 7 times faster than the previous generation. A GPS 24xd position receiver and antenna are included, and it connects to compatible gear over NMEA 2000 and NMEA 0183. Transducers are sold separately.
Our take
The 9210XSV carries sonar in the unit, but transducers are sold separately, so a transducer is an extra purchase to plan for before the sonar is of any use. Its processing is rated 7 times faster than the previous generation, aimed at quicker chart redraws.
From our buying guide
What's in the box depends on the part number: Raymarine sells one screen display only, with charts, with a transducer, or with both. Not every chart card fits every plotter, either.
Check before you buy:
- The part number includes the charts and transducer you expect.
- It reads the charts you want, and you know how long their updates last, since many come with a one-year subscription.
- A touchscreen suits your helm, since Raymarine warns that prolonged rain or water wash can cause false touches.
