The Garmin GPSMAP 8610xsv is a networked chartplotter with a 10 inch touchscreen display and sonar support built in. It handles dual-channel 1 kW traditional CHIRP sonar, and it arrives loaded with Navionics+ charts for coast and inland waters. It connects to other gear over NMEA 2000 and the Garmin Marine Network, and Wi-Fi pairs it with the ActiveCaptain app. Dual microSD slots sit on the back. Transducers are sold separately, so the sonar side needs one chosen and fitted.
Our take
The dual microSD slots on the back of the 8610xsv give the ActiveCaptain app and cartography cards somewhere to go. Transducers are sold separately, so the sonar will need a transducer bought and installed before it can show you anything under the hull.
From our buying guide
What's in the box depends on the part number: Raymarine sells one screen display only, with charts, with a transducer, or with both. Not every chart card fits every plotter, either.
Check before you buy:
- The part number includes the charts and transducer you expect.
- It reads the charts you want, and you know how long their updates last, since many come with a one-year subscription.
- A touchscreen suits your helm, since Raymarine warns that prolonged rain or water wash can cause false touches.
