The Garmin GPSMAP 743 is a 7" chartplotter in the mapping-only version, listed as non-sonar and without the radar bundle. It has a slimline body with a smaller footprint. It shares data with other compatible Garmin devices. Built-in Wi-Fi pairs with a free mobile app, and the software includes SailAssist sailing features.
Our take
The 743 is the non-sonar version of this 7" Garmin, so the screen serves charts and networked data rather than fish finding. The small size is a trade-off too: the higher-resolution IPS upgrade is named only for the 9", 12" and 16" plotters.
From our buying guide
What's in the box depends on the part number: Raymarine sells one screen display only, with charts, with a transducer, or with both. Not every chart card fits every plotter, either.
Check before you buy:
- The part number includes the charts and transducer you expect.
- It reads the charts you want, and you know how long their updates last, since many come with a one-year subscription.
- A touchscreen suits your helm, since Raymarine warns that prolonged rain or water wash can cause false touches.
