The GPSMAP 1243xsv is a Garmin chartplotter with a 12 inch display, mapping and built-in sonar covering SideVü, ClearVü and traditional CHIRP. The X3 series supports 1 kW traditional CHIRP. Its higher-resolution IPS screen is meant to read better in sunlight. It has built-in Wi-Fi for the mobile app and links to compatible autopilots and other devices over NMEA networks.
Our take
The 12 inch IPS display is listed with improved sunlight readability, which counts at an open helm where glare washes out a screen. Live Panoptix or LiveScope views need a separate transducer.
From our buying guide
What's in the box depends on the part number: Raymarine sells one screen display only, with charts, with a transducer, or with both. Not every chart card fits every plotter, either.
Check before you buy:
- The part number includes the charts and transducer you expect.
- It reads the charts you want, and you know how long their updates last, since many come with a one-year subscription.
- A touchscreen suits your helm, since Raymarine warns that prolonged rain or water wash can cause false touches.
