The GPSMAP 1042xsv is a Garmin chartplotter with a 10 inch color display and mapping. This version comes with a transducer for its SideVü, ClearVü and traditional CHIRP sonar. A 10 Hz GPS and GLONASS receiver refreshes position quickly. It connects to NMEA 2000 and NMEA 0183 networks, uses built-in Wi-Fi with the ActiveCaptain app, and shares sonar, maps and radar over the Garmin Marine Network.
Our take
This 10 inch version comes with the transducer, so the SideVü, ClearVü and CHIRP sonar can be used without buying one separately. The 10 Hz GPS and GLONASS receiver also updates position ten times a second.
From our buying guide
What's in the box depends on the part number: Raymarine sells one screen display only, with charts, with a transducer, or with both. Not every chart card fits every plotter, either.
Check before you buy:
- The part number includes the charts and transducer you expect.
- It reads the charts you want, and you know how long their updates last, since many come with a one-year subscription.
- A touchscreen suits your helm, since Raymarine warns that prolonged rain or water wash can cause false touches.
