The Garmin GNX 120 is a 7 inch marine instrument display with a monochrome inverted LCD. It can show white or color digits of 2.75-inch (70 mm), mounts flush, and carries an IPX7 water rating. It takes power from NMEA 2000 at 9-16 V and uses 0.36 W by day and 0.4 W at night. Users choose among five display configurations, from one to three functions on screen.
Our take
The GNX 120 draws 0.36 W by day and 0.4 W at night from a 9-16 V NMEA 2000 supply, a small load on the boat's electrics. It is monochrome only and has no direct NMEA 0183 connection, so NMEA 0183-only gear would need bridging.
From our buying guide
A networked instrument display shows what its sensors put on the network. B&G says its Triton2 shows no reading for any data type missing from the network.
Check before you buy:
- The sensors for the readings you want are on your network.
- Your older gear can reach it, since gear that speaks NMEA 0183 may need a gateway or converter.
- You have the rest if you want to steer from it. B&G says steering from a Triton2 also needs a separate keypad, an autopilot computer and a drive unit.
