The Garmin GMI 10 is a digital marine instrument with a 3.5 inch color QVGA screen, 320 x 240 pixels. It shows data from several remote sensors on one screen. It has NMEA 0183 and NMEA 2000 ports, is waterproof and flush mountable, and has audible alarms. Dimensions are 4.3 x 4.4 x 1.9 inches. What it shows depends on the sensors connected.
Our take
The NMEA 2000 connection is the useful part: units can be added to or removed from the bus without affecting the others, so a GMI 10 setup can grow sensor by sensor. What the screen shows depends entirely on which sensors are connected.
From our buying guide
A networked instrument display shows what its sensors put on the network. B&G says its Triton2 shows no reading for any data type missing from the network.
Check before you buy:
- The sensors for the readings you want are on your network.
- Your older gear can reach it, since gear that speaks NMEA 0183 may need a gateway or converter.
- You have the rest if you want to steer from it. B&G says steering from a Triton2 also needs a separate keypad, an autopilot computer and a drive unit.
